As many of you know, I sailed off for Antarctica a month ago. On March 25, 2015, I got on the Ushuaia MV and set sail for Antarctica. My port city was Ushuaia, Argentina. The pictures begin in Ushuaia. What you’re getting ready to see is my journey along the way. My goal of seeing all seven continents by my 30th birthday has been reached, finished, accomplished, and yes, fulfilled. Thanks for your support along the way. Starting a Fire in Nairobi
travelMy latest “Diary of a Travel-Diva” article is live! Read the excerpt below to find out how I managed to start a fire in Kenya last fall.
Well, it was time for me to get to work. I watched my tutor show me how to push down and stir the ugali. It took just about all of my strength to stir the heavy mass of grounded corn and water. I was given a cloth to help me turn the hot pot and the wooden spoon helped me press down the dish over the open fire. My Saudiversary – Friday the 13th
travelIt’s Friday the 13th and it’s been one year since I came to Saudi Arabia and one month since I started this blog. Thanks for helping me reach nearly 1,000 visitors, 2,000 views, 31 countries, and six continents in just one month!
A special thanks to all of you who have supported me and cheered me on from my first teaching assignment three years ago in China. You add fuel to my fire in the most amazing way. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I can’t write about all of the things that I’ve learned in this past year, but here are a few that came to mind.
What I’ve learned:
- Cheddar Bay Biscuits from Red Lobster are treasured wherever you are. Thank you, Riyadh, for giving me a taste of home.
2. The sand dunes here are just like the Windows desktop screensavers, but even better.
3. Water is more expensive than gas ‘round these parts. Hearing about it is one thing, seeing my friend fill up for just a few bucks blew me away.
Karissa & Karisa in Kenya
Uncategorized
It was an honor to meet this man named Karisa. Before I left for Kenya, a Kenyan friend of mine let me know that I had a man’s name and I’d probably meet a man named Karisa while traveling. Well, I met two while in Kenya. I learned that the Chonyi name for Karisa means shepherd or herder. What an honor to carry such a great name.
