Stroke Conqueror – It’s been NINE years!

Build your hopes on things eternal.

“Time is filled with swift transition,
Naught of earth unmoved can stand,
Build your hopes on things eternal,
Hold to God’s unchanging hand.”

It’s hard to believe that it’s been nine years since my family got the news that I was being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. My mouth was twisted. I couldn’t say my name without slurring or stuttering.  My right side was limp. No laughter. No wit. Very little strength. I was having a mild stroke. But through all of those changes and difficulties, I had an unchanging hand to hold.

And I gripped it as tightly as I could.

April 23, 2007 changed my life forever.  The story is yet being written on how that day changed the entire trajectory of my life. One day of brokenness led to a lifetime of a bounce backs. Years of pain led to years of healing.  Seasons of losses, led to seasons of tremendous gains.

The beauty of it all is the immense pleasure of watching as this adventure continues.

Regardless of whatever struggle, setback, or strange season you’re in right now, I can assure you that if you hold to His hand, all will be well.

When I taught in China, I walked into the room of some Chinese English teachers and I glanced at a quote on a computer. It read thusly:

“Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”

I Corinthians 2:9 is for us today. My face is back to normal. My speech has returned too. I can write my name without thinking. And feeding myself is no longer a struggle. Yes, tragedies and challenges come, but the triumphant, conquering moments make it all seem so small.

His love for us is so great. May we continue to love THEE ultimate source.

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

I’m eternally grateful for this miracle in my mind, body, and spirit. I’ll never be the same.

Healed & Whole,

Karissa
