The Most Important Picture of the Year

Uncategorized

I’ve taken a plethora of pictures this year and seen awe-striking sights galore. I was even granted the opportunity to visit that frigid continent of Antarctica and take in its serene and sacred spirit. But no picture, no sight or sound, no adventure compares to the photo above.

That picture reflects answers to countless prayers that my family and I prayed this year. That picture represents college graduations. It represents a new marital union. A bubbly, newly engaged sister and 35 years of marriage are represented here as well. It brings flashes of memories of my brother-in-law being in Qatar and Skyping his wife as she pushed out their youngest child, while surrounded by her sisters and mother. It takes me back to the moment when minutes after his surprise arrival from Qatar, my niece–who would soon start kindergarten–was on his back riding, giggling, and belting out hearty laughs.  This picture reminds me of the God-ordained homecoming for my brother after six long years. It takes me back to breakthroughs with speech for my youngest nephew and breakouts in basketball for my oldest one.
And although we all parted ways hours after the shot was taken, the time that we had on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day was cherished and treasured. I’m humbled by God’s faithfulness and generosity to my family.  On this last day of the year, I’m saying farewell to a year of victories and valleys, triumphs and turmoil, but most of all, God’s faithfulness all year long. And I’m greeting this next year with gratitude and belief that He is the God He says He is. Semper Fi: Always faithful.

Happy New Year to all! May we continue to be sensitive and appreciative to God for His faithfulness, sweet favor, and love to us.

It amazes me how you are able to encapsulate an invaluable familial experience in ever word of this article. You have a knack of taking each reader on a heartwarming journey with each line and every phrase. Great read! Happy New Year!
